Niño S. Barrera joined Design Engineers in April 2022 as a Façade Director, who leads the façade division of the company. Before joining us, he had been in the façade industry since 2006, which is about 17 years of international experience in Qatar, Singapore, New Zealand, and Australia.
His completed projects in Singapore include overseeing the design, installation, and testing of building façade elements as a Senior Façade Engineer for Dragages Singapore Pty Ltd, where they constructed the Cube 8 Condominium, a Green Mark Platinum Award Building that prides itself on having the most stringent quality assurance in the construction industry.
The most challenging project he was involved in while working in Qatar was the design of the Qatar International Islamic Bank curtain wall and podium external screens. The project has unusual floor plans that look like a flower that changes on every level of the building and a podium that changes from concave shape façade to convex.
Attracted to the beautiful nature of New Zealand, he decided to settle and started his family here. Starting as an Engineer for an exterior envelope company, he worked his way up to becoming the Technical Manager and Head of Design since 2015. He has worked on numerous projects, including commercial and residential building cladding and aluminum joineries. He is also an advocate of healthy home living and a member of the Passive House Institute of New Zealand (PHINZ). He was assessed and got Chartered by Engineering New Zealand in Structural design, design management, and construction monitoring of building façade systems.
